I really should have read ahead. It would have made Thing Ten much simplier for me. I had trouble trying to find feeds. I was not sure where to search or type in keywords. I found some of the ones suggested on our 23 Things page D2L, but I wanted the news on my reader. Where to look? I typed "news" into the search bar at the top of my homepage and when I hit enter it asked my if I meant to search for "feeds containing news". Clicking this sent me to abcnews, CNN, etc.
Finally, I saw the browse for stuff icon on the left side of the screen. I just typed in my keywords and the blogs I was looking for popped up. Pretty simple, considering I figured it out on my own. I guess I was a step ahead! Even though I didn't know it.
The Google Blog Search was the easiest for me to use. I did not really like using topix.net. I know it had quite a bit of news on the homepage, but it seemed like there was more to weed through when looking for blogs. The Google Blog Search did all the work for you.
I found useful and unusual feeds. Useful ones are abcnews, CNN, and The History Channel. All things that I would like to check daily in my personal and professional life. CNN has a great segment on student news that is a video clip lasting about 10 minutes. It is a great way to start or end class. Many students never read headlines and the student news keeps it short and sweet. I found some unusual feeds on knitting and yarn. I did not subscribe to them because it is not something that I want to read everyday, but I am glad to know that they are there. Also, one of my hobbies is running 5K's on the weekends. I found a blog entitled the Couch-to-5K Running Plan. Cute! It is similar to active.com in that it gives runners tips on training and where races are held.
Eleven down and twelve to go!
